The city government here will soon
establish the Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) at Barangay San Fermin,
this city, to cater to all children especially those on the day care center.
City Administrator Jose Abad said
the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) allocated funds
amounting to P3.3 million for the construction of the ECDC which is
expected to be completed before the year ends.
He said the center is projected to
contribute to improved school readiness of 3-to-5 year-old boys and girls, help
achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals and help the country meets its
global standards on basic education.
The center, he added will ensure
young children’s overall well-being during the early years, providing also the
foundation for the development of adults who are healthy, socially and
environmentally responsible, intellectually competent, and economically
productive.
The facility is fully-equipped with
learning materials and can accommodate at least 40 kindergarten pupils here.
“To ensure the successful operation
of the center and to prepare the staff in handling children, we have already
sent teachers and day care workers for trainings in Manila,” Abad said.
Other ECDC were also
established in the towns of Lal-lo and Santa Teresita in Cagayan and in Sta.
Maria, Isabela. (ALM/MGE/PIA-2 Isabela)
