SM Foundation in partnership with Harbest Agribusiness
Corporation, Department of Social Welfare Development, Department of
Agriculture and Local Government of Cauayan City launched the 94th
batch of Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Program in Cauayan City today.
SM Foundation’s Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Farmer’s Training
Program aims to upgrade the agricultural knowledge of small-scale farmers by
equipping them with modern farming methods and technology for them to produce
high quality crops. With this program, SM is also giving opportunity for
farmers to create market-linkages through SM Supermarket.
About 150 farmers from Cauayan City and nearby towns is
sponsored to undergo a 12-weeks hands-on training about organic farming which
will be facilitated by Harbest Agribusiness Corporation. Participating farmers
will learn new technology on application of fertilizers, soil amendments, and
the use of other water-soluble products. Well-organized use of water, lower
toil cost and healthier crops are among the benefits.
Present to grace the launching of the program in ISU-Cauayan
today are Cauayan City Mayor Bernard Faustino Dy, City Agriculturist Rufino
Arcega, staffs of DSWD, Harbest Agricultural Corporation President Mr. Toto
Barcelona and SM City Cauayan Mall Manager Ian Ezekiel Balao. The ceremonial
transplanting of seedling was also conducted today.
Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Program will culminate with a bountiful
Harvest festival and Graduation Rite on October 7, 2015 at SM City Cauayan. (PR)
