‘Egay’ brings rain, saves crops from drought

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, July 7 (PIA) - - Thousands of farmers here were celebrating typhoon Egay’s rain as it gave relief to the growing crops affected by the drought. 
Lucrecio Alviar, regional director of the Department of Agriculture (DA), said the rains brought by typhoon Egay have been a blessing to farmers in the region whose crops withered due to the dry spell.
He said the rains brought by Egay particlarly in Isabela can sustain the corn plants for 15 days. 
Earlier, farmers in the province were worried on the absence of rains to sustain the growth of their crops that are already at the vegetative stage. 
The towns of Quirino, Delfin Albano, Reina Mercedes and Tumauini here have submitted their damage assessment report to the provincial agriculture office where according to provincial agriculturist Danilo Tumamao, the damage to crops caused by the continuing dry spell has reached P12.5 million from the four municipalities alone.
